Contenders for the US Open- Past Champions

With the US Open set to start in less than a week, The Sports Lowdown takes a look at the runners and riders in this year’s competition. First of all, we will look at the past five winners of the competition and access their chances of winning the tournament this year.

 

Martin Kaymer

Last year’s champion Martin Kaymer has struggled in the Masters since his win at the competition last year. After finishing 70^th at The Open, he missed the cut at the PGA Championship and The Masters.

The German has fallen out of the top ten in the rankings and is yet to win a tournament this year. However, the German has been known to produce magical rounds of golf and will be aiming to become the first man since Curtis Strange in 1989 to retain the title and win his third major.
