Deflategate – The Appeal Begins.

Across the pond, NFL had one of the biggest controversies in recent memory when the New England Patriots were accused of deflating the footballs to increase the grip for All-Star QB Tom Brady and his wide receivers when they faced the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game.

Everyone thought that when Brady was suspended for the first 4 games of the NFL Season, that an appeal would be the natural course for him and his team. It was then announced on May 14th that the NFLPA (National Football League Players Association) had submitted a formal appeal and it was released to the public. The appeal began today, so by the end of this week we could know whether Tom Brady will continue his key role at the heart of the Patriots all season, or if they will be without their 1st string Quarterback for some of the most crucial game-weeks.

According to ESPN, Brady is to testify under oath, and if he reiterates his claims of innocence and they are later found out to be untrue, he could face serious punishment if he is found to have lied under oath during this appeal. There has been many battles in this lengthy saga, Brady v his prosecutors, The Pats v NFL and now the NFLPA is attacking the credibility of the Wells’ report, which was one of the reasons that Brady was heavily punished for Deflategate.

Brady has had many supporters, none bigger than his teams owner, Robert Kraft who has supposedly written a letter of support for Brady going into his trial.

We now play a patient waiting game to see the outcome of the appeal. Wells’ states in his report that ”it was more probable than not” that Brady and the Patriots deflated the balls. But Brady has kept his integrity and pleaded his innocence throughout. This could be a trial of word v word and at the current time, there is no clue whether or not Brady is truly innocent and if he will play at the start of the new season for the Patriots.
