The Cobra Retires – Greatest British Super Middleweight?

Today it has been officially announced the Carl “The Cobra” Froch has retired from boxing and will take up a role on Sky Sports as a boxing pundit on their regular boxing events.

The news has come as no surprise to boxing fans, with Froch, after defeating George Groves at Wembley Stadium (you may of heard it was in front of 80,000 people),  looking for one last “super fight”, one last big pay day, but this has not materialised.

There had been talk of a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr, but this did not happen, and recently, Froch was trying to get some interest in a fight with current Middleweight Champion, Gennady Golovkin, but again, nothing occurred, with Golovkin likely realising that Froch was way too big a risk for him, and correctly at his stage of his career, was not interested in the fight.

Froch finishes his career with a professional record of 35 fights, 33 wins and 2 losses, his 2 losses were against Andre Ward, the brilliant American Super Middleweight, and Mikkel Kessler, a very good Danish Super Middleweight, who Froch went onto avenge his defeat in their rematch, so no shame in either of those losses.

On his wins column, he beat the likes of Arthur Abraham, Glen Johnson, George Groves (twice), Jermain Taylor, Jean Pascal, Lucien Bute, Andre Dirrell and Mikkel Kessler, some world class talent in that list and World Champions.
