Lewis Hamilton extended his lead at the top of the Driver’s Championship after winning his home Grand Prix at Silverstone. Although the race was dramatic, it will do little to convince those who think Formula One has become too predictable to think otherwise.

Hamilton was overtaken shortly after the race had started, but he was able to retake the initiative later on and went on to win the race by over ten seconds, with his Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg finishing seconds. Sebastian Vettel also ended up on the podium although he finished nearly thirty second behind the race winner.

Although Jenson Button never finished the race, his McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso came tenth to secure his first points of the season. Williams’ drivers Felipe Massa and Valterri Bottas came fourth and fifth respectively as their impressive season continued.

Daniel Riccardo did not finish the race but Red Bull team mate Daniil Kvyat was in the points, finishing sixth. Nico Hulkenberg, Kimi Raikkonen and Sergio Perez also ended the race in point scoring positions.

Formula One has been criticised in recent weeks as Mercedes continue to dominate the sport. Several teams are thought to be considering their future in the sport due to a lack of competitiveness and an unwillingness from the biggest teams to share out prize. It is thought that several investors are interested in putting money into the sport in a bid to revamp it.

Despite the current uncertainty, the race at Silverstone was one of the most compelling races of the season so far. Hamilton will be hoping he can now carry on his momentum into the next race as he bids for back to back World Championships.
