New Swindon Robins rider Darcy Ward couldn’t help his side win at Leicester on Saturday night, despite scoring 15+1 for Alun Rossiter’s side.

The Robins, who were without Aussie duo Troy Batchelor and Nick Morris ruled out due to injury and Charles Wright competing in a Premier League clash, eventually lost the tie 49-42 against a resilient Lions side at Beaumont Park

Ward was on fire from the off, winning his opening ride before successfully leading an 8-1 with guest Craig Cook, as the Robins opted for a tactical ride in heat six.

But when Ward and Cook met again in heat 13, both were excluded; first Ward as he hit the deck, before Cook crashed in the rerun, giving the Lions a comfortable 5-0.

Ward and the in-form Greg Zengota ended the night with a 5-1, but it wasn’t enough, despite the pair both recording three wins each.

For the Lions, it was business as usual for Jason Doyle who managed 13+2, whilst Carl Wilkinson and Szymon Wozniak added a further 24 points between them. The result lifts Leicester back off the bottom, as they prepare for a trip to Belle Vue on Monday night.

The Robins are also in action Monday night, as they welcome 2nd placed Poole Pirates to the Abbey Stadium in what will be both Ward’s home debut and his first meeting against his former club.

LEICESTER 49: Jason Doyle 13+1, Carl Wilkinson 12, Szymon Wozniak 11+1, Simon Lambert 6+1, Piotr Swiderski 6, Sam Masters 1+1, Grzegorz Walasek R/R.

SWINDON 42: Darcy Ward 15+1, Grzegorz Zengota 14+1, Craig Cook 6+1, Lewis Rose 3, Eduard Krcmar 2, Adam Roynon 2, Nick Morris R/R.
