Jamie Caven has qualified for the PDC’s next major tournament, the World Grand Prix in Dublin, which gets underway in Dublin this Sunday.

The Sport Lowdown’s columnist went into the weekend’s final qualifying tournaments, Players Championships 15 and 16 on the verge of qualification, needing one last good weekend to ensure his place in the unique tournament that features a ‘Double Off’ start.

Jabba, who has had an up and down year got off to the worst possible start in Saturday’s Player Championship 15 tournament losing in the last 128 to fellow Midlands player Wayne Jones who secured a 6-3 win taking no money into the qualification table and needing a good performance on Sunday.

With pressure on the Leicester born Caven, he produced some of his best darts of his 2015 season to get through to the last 16 of the tournament, beating Devon Petersen, Kevin McDine and Robert Thornton before going down 6-2 to Robbie Green.

The last 16 spot ensured Caven added £1.5k to his total, securing his place in Dublin next week where he will face his good friend Ian White in the first round.
