Serena Williams will play her sister Venus in the next round after both enjoyed comfortable wins, whilst Novak Djokovic and Marin Cilic advanced in four sets. However, Eugenie Bouchard was forced to pull out of the tournament before her fourth round match, as Feliciano Lopez ended Fabio Fognini’s run.

The seventh day of the tournament saw Serena Williams take on the rising American Madison Keys, as the world number one continued her pursuit of the calendar grand slam achievement. Even though Keys matched her opponent early on with some huge serving, Williams capitalised on a few double faults to gain the lead and eventually clinched the first set. The younger American was under pressure for most of the second set as Williams finally converted a break point to take control of the match, and she completed the victory when Keys produced a double fault. The world number one will face her sister Venus next, as she dispatched Anett Kontaveit 6-2 6-1.

In addition, Roberta Vinci was granted a walkover into the quarter-finals when Eugenie Bouchard was forced out of the competition with a head injury, and the Italian will play Kristina Mladenovic, who progressed in three sets.

On the men’s side, Fabio Fognini was unable to replicate his sensational form in beating Rafael Nadal, as the Italian fell to Feliciano Lopez 6-3 7-6 6-1. The Spaniard’s quarter-final opponent will be Novak Djokovic, after the Serbian claimed a hard-fought 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-3 win over Roberto Bautista Agut.

Also, Marin Cilic continued the defence of his title with a four set win over Jeremy Chardy, and Jo Wilfried Tsonga will face the Croat next after he dismissed his fellow countryman Benoit Paire 6-4 6-3 6-4.
