Riders Aim To Continue Winning Start

Leicester Riders will be looking to make it three wins out of three when they take on Leeds Force in the British Basketball League.

The Riders have won their first two matches of the meeting after beating Worcester Wolves and Glasgow Rocks in their opening matches. Leicester currently sit in fourth place in the league table, but have games in hand on all three of the teams above them and if they continue their winning start they could move up to second in the standings.

It has been a tough start to the season for Leeds, who currently find themselves in ninth place. They have the same number of points as Leicester, but have played three games more and have a considerably worse points difference.

Leicester have improved considerably in recent years from a mid table side to league winners. The club were champions as recently as 2013, although they failed to win the end of season play offs. Last season they again reached the play-offs after finishing second in the league, but again failed to make an impression in the end of season finale.

Leeds will be hoping for a better season this time around after finishing eleventh last season, but they will have to improve on their early season form if they are to mount a challenge to qualify for the play-offs themselves.

Another big match this weekend will see top of the table Newcastle host third place Cheshire in what is likely to be a highly competitive affair. Meanwhile, bottom of the table Plymouth will be hoping to get their first win of the season against Bristol. Bristol themselves have been in poor form this season, having won only one of their first six matches.

While the league table is starting to take shape, it is difficult to get an accurate ideas of who will be challenging for the top spot and the play-offs due to the fact that not all of the teams have played an equal number of games. Newcastle and Bristol have played six times this season, while the likes of Leicester and Sheffield have only played twice. Once the teams have played a more even number of games it will be easier to get a gauge of where they are at.
