It was the final opportunity for players to move up the ProTour rankings and claim a better seed going into the finals in Minehead, where Michael van Gerwen will be the top seed, despite not competing on Coventry on Saturday and Sunday.

Peter Wright won his third Players Championship event of the year on Saturday, beating big Dutchman Benito van de Pas in the final 6-5. Wright lost a 5-2 lead last week in the European Tour and lost 6-5 to Kim Huybrechts in the final. This time he held his nerve in the final to average 107 to take the £10,000 prize.

‘Snakebite’ beat Paul Milford, Dimitri Van den Bergh, Darren Johnson and Justin Pipe in the early rounds before beating Adrian Lewis in the quarter-finals. He then beat an in-form Mensur Suljovic in the semi-final and then went on to claim the title.

Gary Anderson won Players Championship 20 on Sunday, beating James Wade in the final to win his second title of the year. James Wade became the second ever player to reach 100 quarter-finals, but Anderson stopped his run in the final, beating him 6-2 with a 101 average.

The World Champion squeezed past Joey Ten Berge and Nigel Heydon in the first two rounds winning 6-5 in both. He beat Alan Norris in the third round before he dispatched Adrian Lewis in the fourth round. Premier League stars Stephen Bunting and Dave Chisnall were beaten by the Premier League Champion Anderson before he beat Wade in the final.
