Sam Burgess switches back to Rugby League

Reports are suggesting that Sam Burgess has agreed to leave Bath and Rugby Union in favour of a switch back to Australian Rugby league side South Sydney Rabbitohs.

It has been an interesting couple of month for Burgess since he was selected in England’s rugby world cup squad, however his involvement in the tournament came under great criticism, especially when he appeared to play out of position in Englands crunch game against Wales, which they eventually lost.

Burgess made the switch to Rugby Union last October when he left the Rabbitohs where he had played 95 times scoring 26 tries.

Despite a successful spell at Bath his selection in England’s final world cup squad was frowned upon by many.

With this in mind it is no surprise that he has made the decision to return to Australia and Rugby League, his family still live in Australia and he style of play is without doubt more suited to rugby league.

There are many involved in the game however that believe it is a great loss for English Rugby including including former England centre Will Greenwood who tweeted this evening :

Am I hearing @SamBurgess8 has left Bath? If so rugby union has let the lad down..
