Three players Arsenal should be looking to sign in the summer

As it seems as though Arsenal have thrown away an excellent opportunity of securing their first league title in 12 years, many fans will already be looking ahead to next season. Arsene Wenger was heavily criticised for his lack of spending last summer, and could be the reason behind their failure this season. So here are three players Arsenal should be looking to sign in order to transform themselves into a true title winning side.

  1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The 34 year old striker has already confirmed that he will be leaving PSG in the summer, and has suggested that there has been interest from Premier League clubs. Despite being 34, Ibrahimovic would be a fantastic short term solution to Arsenal’s goal scoring troubles. The Swedish international has netted 30 goals in Ligue 1, which would surely be an improvement on Arsenal’s top scorer Olivier Giroud, who has only found the back of the net 12 times in the Premier League. Many will say Ibrahimovic would be a risky signing due to the baggage he would bring along with his footballing ability. However, the experience Zlatan could bring to the Arsenal dressing room could be a huge psychological boost for some of the younger players. Albeit his personality could be an issue, but there’s no doubt that he would bring the fear factor back at Arsenal, and would improve their striking options.

2. Granit Xhaka

Now you might be asking, who? Granit Xhaka is a 23 year old central midfielder, who can play the role of either box to box midfielder or defensive midfielder. He currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach, and has appeared to have caught the eye of many managers across Europe, one being Arsene Wenger. With the likes of Rosicky, Flamini and Arteta looking to be leaving the club in the summer, a central midfield addition could be needed. Although new signing Mohamed Elneny has impressed since breaking into the Arsenal side, Xhaka would be a truly fantastic signing, and could be exactly what the Gunners need. He would bring much needed height in the middle of the park, as well as leadership, aggression and great range of passing. The only issue regarding this signing would be the cost. Borussia Monchengladbach’s asking price is said to be around the £35 million mark, and as we all know, Arsene Wenger can be very stubborn when it comes to spending.

3. John Stones

Although a very unlikely signing, Arsenal should be at least monitoring the John Stones situation at Everton. The 21 year old was at the centre of the transfer news last summer with Chelsea offering a massive £30 million for the defender, but Everton stood strong and rejected the bid. As Per Mertesacker looks to be coming towards the end of his Arsenal career, signing a replacement is crucial. Although Stones is far from the finished product, he would be an excellent signing at the heart of the defence for Arsenal. Not only is Stones a magnificent defender, but he also possess great qualities on the ball, which would fit perfectly into Arsenal’s passing game. Once again, this is a highly unlikely signing, but is definitely a player Arsene Wenger should be looking at.
