Champions Leicester City have signed Nampalys Mendy – a Central Midfielder – from Nice on a four-year contract.

The 24-year old becomes the Foxes’ third major addition of the summer having already reached agreements with  Ron-Robert Zieler and Luis Hernandez.

Following the completion of his deal, the Frenchman told:  “I am very happy to come to Leicester City. The team have just enjoyed a great season and it’s excellent to be here. For me I want to play at this level.

“I like the Premier League and I follow every match. It’s fast and physical and I want to impose myself on the league. I know the coach (Claudio Ranieri), I know his mentality and I know his philosophy. When he speaks it’s direct and clear and for me I like this.”

Those in the know have tipped Mandy to be one of the superstars of French Football in the near future, and while he hasn’t been heard of in England, his vital contributions to OGC Nice’s fourth-placed finish in the Ligue 1 speak volumes of his ability. However, it remains to be seen whether or not will he be as good as Leicester City’s previous signings, especially N’ Golo Kante whom Mendy is inevitably going to be compared to.
