A brief overview of the latest Ligue 1 action covers Monaco’s slip-up at Bastia and Toulouse’s resolve at the Parc des Princes.

Friday 17 February

Bastia 1-1 Monaco Venue – Stade Armand Cesari

The league leaders were held to a draw at Bastia with Sadio Diallo opening the scoring for the hosts in the 19th-minute, before Bernardo Silva’s goal early in the second half earned a point for Monaco.

Bastia remain 19th in the table while Monaco’s lead at the top was cut to three points.

Saturday 18 February

Marseille 2-0 Rennes Venue – Stade Vélodrome

Marseille got over last weekend’s loss to Nantes with a comfortable victory over Rennes. Quick fire goals from Clinton N’Jie and Florian Thauvin either side of the hour mark were enough to claim the three points for Les Olympiens.

The home side closed the gap on Saint-Étienne but stay 6th in the league standings; six points ahead of Rennes in 10th, whose dreadful winless run continues.

Angers 1-0 Nancy Venue – Stade Jean Bouin

An early goal from Jonathan Bamba in the 5th-minute saw Angers claim the win against Nancy at the Stade Jean Bouin on Saturday.

The visitors slipped to 17th and are very much in danger, whereas Angers gave themselves some breathing space as they climbed to 12th.

Caen 0-1 Lille Venue – Stade Michel d’Ornano

One goal was all that separated Caen and Lille as well, as Les Dogues ended a three-match losing streak with a victory at the Stade Michel d’Ornano.

Despite losing Adama Soumaoro shortly past the hour through a dismissal, Lille weren’t affected and Anwar El-Ghazi scored the winner six minutes later.

Lorient 0-1 Nice Venue – Stade du Moustoir

Nice capitalised on Monaco’s draw with a narrow win at the Stade du Moustoir, versus bottom club Lorient.

Wylan Cyprien broke the deadlock for Les Aiglons after just 15 minutes, but a worrying moment arrived in the 68th-minute when Mario Balotelli received his third red card of the campaign, for bad language. The visitors held on however to move back to within three points of Monaco.

Metz 1-1 Nantes Venue – Stade Saint-Symphorien

Metz will be the happier of the two sides after scoring to late penalty to earn a point against Nantes. Les Canaris are 13th in the table, still two points above 15th place Metz.

Valentin Rongier had put Nantes ahead in the 68th-minute, but when Oswaldo Vizcarrondo conceded a penalty for a foul on Simon Falette, Cheick Diabate drew the hosts level from the spot in second half stoppage time.

Sunday 19 February

Bordeaux 3-0 Guingamp Venue – Nouveaux Stade de Bordeaux

In spite of the win against Lyon, Guingamp’s poor form continued with a heavy loss at Bordeaux on Sunday. Francois Kamano and Nicolas Pallois made it 2-0 to Les Girondins in the first half, and Gaetan Laborde added a third shortly after Jonathan Pereira was sent off for the visitors.

Bordeaux continue their ascendancy in 7th; now five points above Guingamp in 9th position.

Lyon 4-2 Dijon Venue – Stade des Lumieres

Lyon continue to hold onto their 4th place, beating Dijon on home soil, leaving their opponents 16th in the Ligue 1 standings.

Corentin Tolisso’s opener in the 11th-minute gave the hosts the advantage, before Dijon turned the game on its head with goals from Julio Tavares and Lois Diony either side of half-time putting them in front.

Les Gones fought back in the latter stages however, as Tolisso scored a second in the 80th-minute, before Alexandre Lacazette scored from the spot and Nabil Fekir added a fourth within the space of ten minutes.

Montpellier 2-1 Saint-Étienne Venue – Stade de la Mosson

Montpellier earned a big victory against Saint-Étienne, but it was Les Verts who took the lead through Kevin Monnet-Paquet after just 12 minutes. Paul Lasne equalised for La Paillade early in the second period, before Saint-Étienne’s Jorge Intima was sent off and Steve Mounie turned the game around for Montpellier.

The visitors are still 5th in the table but Marseille and Bordeaux are in hot pursuit, while Montpellier are still down in 11th.

Paris Saint-Germain 0-0 Toulouse Venue – Parc des Princes

PSG were hoping to capitalise on Monaco dropping points against Bastia, but Les Parisians failed to break down Toulouse at the Parc des Princes and made a slip-up of their own in a game that could have gone either way.
