Andy Murray has reached the third round at Wimbledon as the defending champion swiftly dismissed the potentially dangerous Dustin Brown with a comfortable 6-3 6-2 6-2 victory.

Brown displayed his vast array of dazzling shot-making to stay with Murray early on but a double fault gifted the world number one the break to serve for the set at 5-3 up, which he took to gain the opener. From that point on, the Brit dominated the contest with his relentless consistency to take a firm grip on the encounter. Even though the German showed his attacking flair at the net at times, it wasn’t enough as Murray went on to seal a commanding straight sets win.

The defending champion next plays Fabio Fognini in round three.

As for the other Brits, Aljaz Bedene progressed with a four set win and Heather Watson produced a magnificent performance to sweep aside Anastasija Sevastova 6-0 6-4. Also, Johanna Konta eventually prevailed 7-6 4-6 10-8 in a thrilling match against Donna Vekic, but Kyle Edmund suffered a straight sets loss to Gael Monfils.

In the other men’s matches, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Marin Cilic all notched straight sets wins as Jo Wilfried Tsonga also followed them into round three. But, Juan Martin Del Potro is out of the tournament as the Argentine went down 4-6 4-6 6-7 to Ernests Gulbis.

On the women’s side, Simona Halep, Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina moved through but Petra Kvitova exited the tournament with a three set defeat to Madison Brengle. Victoria Azarenka continued her comeback by seeing off Elena Vesnina 6-3 6-3 as Agnieszka Radwanska needed to save match points before claiming a 5-7 7-6 6-3 win over Christina McHale.
