16 year old British tennis star Katie Swan caused a major upset in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying, knocking out world number 118 Kristina Kucova in straight sets 6-3 6-4.

It’s all happened very quickly for the youngster, who only made her WTA tour debut last week at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.

“I was really nervous before I went on court but I needed to relax and play because I had no pressure at all,” she said.

“Obviously I was nervous, and got nervous in the last game, but I was really happy with the way I played.

“I was more aggressive than I have previously been and that worked for me today.”

The teenager, who reached the Australian Open junior final in January, will face Austria’s Tamira Paszek in the second round. Paszek has reached the Quarter-Finals of Wimbledon on two occasions, and will certainly give Swan a tough test.
