Alberto Contador won his second Giro D’Italia title, finishing one minute and 53 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger, Italy’s Fabio Aru.

The 32 year old Spaniard will now attempt to win both the tours showpiece races in one year, the Giro along with the Tour De France, a feat that hasn’t been achieved since 1998 when Marco Pantani won both.

Controversial Contador has now won both the Giro and the Tour De France but his victorious have been tainted after a positive doping test in 2010/11 that saw him stripped of a further Giro and Tour title.

The Saxo-Tinkoff rider will now rest up ahead of the Tour De France which starts on July 4, where he will likely face 2013 Tour winner, Britain’s Chris Froome as well as defending champion, Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali.
