Motherwell Secure Place In SPL For Another Season

Motherwell secured their place in the SPL after a 3-0 victory over Rangers meant they took the tie 6-1 on aggregate.

Goals from Marvin Johnson, Lionel Ainsworth and a John Sutton penalty meant the Fir Park side will stay in the SPL after a disappointing season saw them forced to face Rangers in a play-off to decide where each team played next season.

The game was marred at the end by a clash between Rangers Bilel Mohsni and Motherwell’s Lee Erwin and Fraser Kerr which resulted in red cards for all three with police becoming involved which is likely to see both sides in trouble.

Rangers were looking to make it three promotions in a row after being demoted for financial irregularities 3 years ago, but they face another season in Division One after a season embroiled in turmoil with both Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowell leaving the club heaving former player and Motherwell manager Stuart McCall in charge for the rest of the season.
