5 Signings to Improve Chelsea

The Premier League Champions are in a unique situation at the moment as to most observers, they were head and shoulders above the rest of the title contenders last season.

Chelsea have been conspicuous by the absence in the transfer market this summer whilst the other teams around them have been luring players to the Premier League in the hope of catching Jose Mourinho’s team. However as with most clubs in England, they have also struggled in the Champions League and their priority as well as retaining their Premier League crown is to compete once again with the European elite.

Here at The Sports Lowdown we take a look at 5 players who could help Chelsea obtain their goals next season!

1. Arturo Vidal

The Juventus maestro has had a outstanding career since taking the plunge and coming across to Europe in 2007, first with Bayer Leverkusen and then joining Italian giants Juventus in 2011 where he has won our Serie A titles as well as numerous cups with the Turin based side.

Often linked with a move to either the Premier League, La Liga or the Bundesliga, Viadal is a sought after box to box  midfielder that has evolved over a number of seasons from a defensive based position to a more intent area of the pitch and one that has seen him become highly regarded by many a manager.

Chelsea are head and shoulders above their Premier League rivals and will go into the upcoming season once again in pole position to win another title under Jose Mourinho but it is their European campaign that has folded in recent seasons and they have yet to replicate any type of form in the Champions League that saw them lift the crown in the 2010/11 season.

If they are to get themselves back amongst Europe’s most elite clubs then they need to add quality to the side and though they are inundated with quality midfielders, it is never a bad idea to get more cover and Mourinho has a habit of being able to keep his players happy whilst rotating the squad.
