Who will make England’s Euro 2016 Squad?

The Defenders

Nathaniel Clyne

Another player I expect to start without too much competition on the right hand side of defence. After an impressive start to his career at Crystal Palace he made the move to the Premier League and has impressed ever since. Another player who was excellent last season at Southampton and has since made a £12.5 million move to Liverpool and the right back has made an impressive start to his career in a red shirt.

Luke Shaw

The highly rated full back disappointed after his big money move last summer, but after a solid pre-season at Manchester United he has started this one well. He also impressed over the international break creating England’s break through goal against Switzerland on Tuesday night. Baring a major slump in form, Shaw will be one of the left backs in the squad.

Kieran Gibbs

The 25 year old has been a solid performer at Arsenal for many years without managing to set the world alight. Gibbs will provide pace in wide areas in attack and defence and Hodgson did select him in his latest squad. Therefore I expect Gibbs to go to France even if it is only as back up.

Chris Smalling

A player who the England manager likes and trust after signing him when in charge at Fulham. Smalling after a shaky 12 months at United, he has really shone at the start of this recent campaign and should he continue with his current form, he could well find himself starting for England next summer.

John Stones

After a summer of rumours about his future at Everton, the ever improving young defender has stayed focused and put in good performances for The Toffees. Many believe he is a shoe in for the squad with as good a chance as any to make the starting eleven.

Gary Cahill

Certain starter. Cahill has impressed for the both club and country for many seasons and was one half of the best defensive partnership in the Premier League last season. Cahill is also a goal threat, chipping in with his fair share of goals.

Phil Jones

Just about makes it for me, a player whose lack of improvement over the past two seasons has been disappointing. Many will say it is due to him never getting a run of games in the same position, but this argument is counter by people saying he never puts a consistent run of games together in one position. Strangely enough it may be his ability to fill in in numerous positions, what secures his place in the squad as he could prove back up at centre half, full back and defensive midfield.
