England’s Limited Overs Future Looks Good

228189.3

The future looks good for England in the limited overs format of the game, especially in T20s, the newest and most exciting version of cricket. England have just won a three-match series away to Pakistan 3-0, including a fantastic super over in the final encounter. Is this the perfect time for England. With the T20 World Cup coming up next year, can England’s young guns go on to win the tournament for the second time in six years.

In all three games in the UAE, England batted first and put down a good total to defend. Twice they did, with wins of 14 runs and 3 runs in the first two matches. The final match came down to a super over, which was bowled brilliant by Chris Jordan, conceding only three runs. Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler went out and scored the four required for victory to win the series 3-0.

The squad for the series featured many young players, all with a chance of a long T20 career for England. Jason Roy and James Vince played well at the top of the order, not forgetting Alex Hales who was rested after playing in the ODI series.

From there, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Eoin Morgan battled in the middle order, with the big hitters of Jos Buttler, Sam Billings and David Willey all following suit. Willey also played his hand with the ball, along with Reece Topley, Liam Plunkett, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes.

That is a good core group of players, who could go on to major things if kept together, fit and healthy.

Along with the T20 whitewash victory in the UAE, England were also triumphant in the One-Day series. They won the four-match series 3-1, and will take much confidence from that, including the fastest ever hundred scored by an Englishman for Jos Buttler (who now has the fastest three), along with a hundred for Alex Hales at the top of the order.

Chris Woakes (8), David Willey (6), Reece Topley (6) and Moeen Ali (6) all took wickets in the ODI series as well. With the possible addition of Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad into that mix, plus the injury-stricken Steven Finn and Mark Wood, England look good on both sides of the game.

Cricket could be a very good sport to watch for the England fans over the next few years.
