An outrageous volley and a poacher’s goal from Jamie Vardy made sure Leicester’s form continued as they beat Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes began the match at the top of the league and knew a point would see them stay there, but they went one better and got all three points.

A fast start from the home side gave Riyad Mahrez an opportunity from the centre of the box but his shot dragged just wide before Shinji Okazaki’s header was well-saved by Simon Mignolet.

Mahrez came close once again with a long range shot out of nothing; the effort would have nestled into the top corner if it wasn’t for a piece of expert goalkeeping from the Belgian shot-stopper.

Vardy’s chance came on the hour mark after a pass over the top from Mahrez unleashed the England striker on the right-hand side. He spotted Mignolet off his line before firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25-yards.

The lead gave the Foxes a huge boost of confidence and they even displayed a fine passage of “tiki-taka” play.

Another counter-attack from Leicester saw Okazaki make some space on the edge of the box and his deflected attempt found Vardy to poke home the second.

Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to break Leicester down after the second goal and Leicester began to play with composure to see the game out.

The good news followed the full-time whistle as well for the Foxes as they learned Arsenal were held to a goalless draw at home to Southampton.

England manager Roy Hodgson was at the King Power Stadium to witness a top-draw home performance; both Vardy and Danny Drinkwater have given him a lot to think about for the European Championships in the summer.

Upcoming games against Manchester City and Arsenal are going to be huge for Leicester but with the passion and sense of togetherness in the team, their ability to upset the league could persist.
