With the world T20 qualifying groups getting underway tomorrow, we have a look at England’s chances of regaining the crown they won in 2010. They begin their tournament next week on Wednesday 16th against West Indies.

This years tournament is being held in India, so England will have to adapt to the sub continent conditions quickly if they are to gain any success. Also in their group will be Srilanka, South Africa and one of either Scotland, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

The top two from the group will progress to the Semi Finals. England will need to improve a lot from their recent defeats to South Africa and will hope for some big performances from their star players.

Their batting line up definitely has the firepower produce large totals, but will need to show consistency throughout the tournament in order to succeed. Hales, Morgan, Buttler and Root will be the four main batsmen that they will look to in order to get the runs.

England’s bowling line up looks more inexperienced but does offer them variety, with the left arm seam of Willey and Topley and the leg spin of Adil Rashid. Moeen Ali could prove invaluable with his off spin on pitches that will offer spinners assistance.

However, England will not get it all their own way in the group with the likes of Chris Gayle and Ab De Villiers posing a large threat. On top of this, the Srilankan spinners will love the conditions, testing England to the full.

With the tournament not far away, the selectors should know what team they will play in the first game and will be hoping for a much better display than in the 2014 competition, in which they crashed out in the group stage. Their seems to be more optimism about England’s one day teams these days and are in with a good chance of getting out of the group if they play more consistently.
