In years gone by, fans have seen their club miss out on the likes of Suarez and Higuaín, due to high price tags. However, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City all spending big; Arsene Wenger may have no choice but to match his rivals ruthless approach in the transfer market.
Who should Arsenal be targeting?
Of course Arsenal fans would love to see the club bring in someone like Karim Benzema or Gonzalo Higuaín, but the likelihood of Wenger spending £60 – £70 million on a player is very little.
So who is realistic?
One man who has been linked with a move to the Emirates is Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman netted 21 goals last season, and in the season before that 27. At the age of 25 there is still room for improvement, and Wenger is known for improving strikers massively; just look at Olivier Giroud.
Although this wouldn’t be the big name signing Arsenal fans are desperate for; Lacazette would almost certainly improve this Arsenal side.
He would offer a contrasting style of play to Giroud, which is exactly what the Gunners are crying out for. Lacazette possesses electric pace and instinctive finishing. You could say he’s similar to Ian Wright, but I wouldn’t want to compare him to an Arsenal legend just yet.
The reported asking price for Lacazette is between £35 – £40 million, which in this transfer window, could be seen as a reasonable price.
The only doubt I would have over Lacazette is whether he would fit into the Premier League. He has a phenomenal record in France, but as we all know, there is quite a difference in quality between the Ligue 1 and the Premier League. Would he be able to make the step up?
