Steve McLaren has reportedly left Derby County this evening after talks with the Rams board, with Paul Clement, the Real Madrid Assistant Coach favourite to take the manager’s role.
Mclaren has been the subject of much speculation since his side’s failure to make the Championship Play-offs, having for most of the season been in the top 6, only to fall away in the league.
Speculation over his future has been rife for a few weeks and he reportedly turned down the chance to manage Newcastle United for the final three games of their season and committing to the East Midlands side.
Should the speculation turn out to be true, the Magpies could once again turn to Mclaren to fill the manager’s role after current incumbent John Carver has failed to secure Newcastle’s place in the Premier League as they go into the final game sitting just above the relegation zone.
Clement has been the right-hand man of Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu and has a growing reputation as a coach and is likely to be hot property this summer as he looks to take his first steps into management .
