Former Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and England striker Teddy Sheringham is edging closer to taking his first management role at League Two club Stevenage.
Sheringham is currently employed at Premier League club West Ham where he is their attacking coach, and yesterday the Hammers gave the 49 year old permission to speak to the club.
Graham Westley remains in charge but his contract expires in the summer, and failing to regain promotion following their play-off defeat against Southend could cost him his job, with the club not renewing his contract.
In a statement, the club said: “Stevenage FC have confirmed they are in talks with former Man United, Spurs, West Ham and England international Teddy Sheringham with a view to him taking over as manager next season.”
Sheringham had an illustrious playing career. He began at Millwall, before moves to Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Portsmouth, West Ham and Colchester.
He also made won 51 caps for England, scoring eleven goals.
