Brentford have appointed Excelsior coach Marinus Dijkhuizen as their new head coach replacing Mark Warburton, whose contract had expired.
Despite finishing in the Championship play-offs, Warburton was told his contract wouldn’t be renewed with the club looking to go in a different direction with a stars-based approach.
NEC coach Roy Hendriksen will join Dijkhuizen as assistant coach with the club intent in changing their status an building the club through a ‘Moneyball’ approach, something that Warburton, after leading the club to promotion from League One and the finishing in the Championship top 6 this season, disagreed with.
Dijkhuizen led Excelsior to 15th in the Dutch Eredivisie last season but finished the season without a win in nine games, with Bees chairman Matthew Benham taking a gamble on the future direction of the club.
