Andy Murray moved into the final of the Aegon Championships as he completed his suspended semi-final match with a 6-3 7-6 victory over Viktor Troicki.
Both players were forced to resume their contest due to the rain, but the Brit was dominant to clinch the first set and withstood some resistance from his Serbian opponent before winning the match in the tiebreak.
The first set was poised at 3-3 and a break point to Murray when play was suspended yesterday, but Troicki saved the first one with a wide serve as both players returned for the conclusion of the match. However, Murray soon fashioned another chance with a delicate drop shot, and this time converted it in spectacular style as an immaculate lob sealed the break of serve. The Brit looked in fine form, consolidating the lead easily and again used his variety to test the Serbian. Troicki had no answer, committing a double fault to hand Murray another break, and with that, the opening set 6-3.
The second set saw both players tested early on, as Murray was forced to save a break point in his first game and Troicki just managed to keep in contention when he held from deuce. But, the Serbian was more consistent and despite failing to convert a 40-0 lead on Murray’s serve, Troicki finally made the breakthrough for a 3-2 lead when the Brit netted a backhand.
However, Murray clawed back the deficit when Troicki missed an easy volley, and the set eventually reached a tiebreak. Murray trailed in the tie-break early on, but fought back to level and then created two match points when the Serbian hit a backhand just wide. The Brit only needed one, sealing the victory when Troicki was unable to return a lob to end an entertaining rally, to book his place in the final.
So, Murray will face Kevin Anderson in the final later on today, as the South African was able to complete his semi-final match yesterday with a 6-3 6-7 6-3 win over Gilles Simon.
