Italian legend Andrea Pirlo is set to join MLS side New York City on a free transfer after requesting his release from the final year of his contract with Turin side Juventus.
The Italy international could join former England and Chelsea star Frank Lampard and former Barcelona and Spain striker David Villa when the MLS starts in early July. Pirlo has had an increasing influence for the Italian giants over recent seasons whilst also continuing to play a huge part for the Italian national side.
A World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, Pirlo has also won the Champions League with AC Milan in his career but now looks set to head to the United States to finish his career after asking Juve to release him from his final year remaining on his contract.
The MLS season got under way in early March and is currently midway through its season with New York City currently sitting 8th in the Eastern Conference and in danger of missing the post-season. Pirlo could also join Steven Gerrard in the MLS as well as Lampard and Villa after the Liverpool legend left Anfield in the summer to join LA Galaxy.
