Last years Championship season was entertaining, going down to the final day before we knew much of the final outcome. There was one point between Bournemouth, who won the league, and Watford, who finished second. The race for the title consisted of four teams until the penultimate week where Middlesbrough (4th) and Norwich (3rd), lost and drew respectively, dropping out of the running for the final day, leaving a total of 5 points between Bournemouth and Middlesbrough.
The race for the play-off’s was also a incredibly close which went down to the final day, with just one point separating Brentford (5th) and Derby County (8th). As well as that 5th, 6th and 7th all had 78 points and were only separated by +5 on goal difference. Both these races were close, going down to the final day. Norwich eventually won the play-off’s after a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Wembley, sending the Canaries to the Premier League with Watford and Bournemouth.
The Relegation battle wasn’t as close. The first team to be relegated was Blackpool who got relegated in early April. They finished bottom with 26 points, but their season was plagued with unrest between fans and the owners, before Millwall and Wigan suffered relegation on the penultimate week. If this season is anything like last season then we are in for a real treat.
