In 2003, Martin Johnson lifted the rugby world cup after a titanic battle against Australia in the final, which for me as a sporting achievement, topped their football counterparts in 1966, when you look at where the competition was played, and the teams they had to beat to get there.
This article, looks at the starting 15 in the final that day, and what they are doing now.
15 Josh Lewsey – This hard as nails full back is now head of rugby at the Welsh Rugby Union. His mother is Welsh, so he has decided to move back.
14 Jason Robinson – The rugby league convert, who is still the fastest player off a starting start I have ever seen, now works on a farm just outside Preston, raising sheep and hens.
13 Will Greenwood – Now a highly respected rugby pundit on Sky Sports, where his passion for the game shines through every time he talks.
12 Mike Tindall – Works in public relations and is married to royalty in the shape of Zara Phillips.
11 Ben Cohen – Has founded a foundation to raise awareness of long term effects of bullying, also appeared on strictly dancing, don’t want to comment too much on the dancing!
10 Jonny Wilkinson – The hero of the final, and idolised in France following his playing career at Toulon. Is now on the coaching staff at Toulon, and also a pundit with Sky Sports.
9 Matt Dawson – TV star on programmes such as question of sport and cookery programmes.
8 Lawrence Dallaglio – A regular pundit on BT Sport for it’s rugby coverage.
7 Neil Back – Went into coaching with a number of clubs, last role he undertook was forwards coach with Edinburgh.
6 Richard Hill – Is involved in coaching with his long time club as a player, Saracens.
5 Ben Kay – Rugby pundit for BT Sport.
4 Martin Johnson – Now involved with coaching younger players looking to break through into the game. For a man of his knowledge and leadership skills we are amazed he is not put to greater use, but maybe after his role as England team manager does not want a similar role.
3 Phil Vickery – Has his own sports company, used sparingly as a rugby pundit and also is part of the RFU council.
2 Steve Thompson – Rugby analyst based in Dubai
1 Trevor Woodman – Full time scrum coach at Gloucester Rugby.
