The Sports Lowdown has already brought you our picks for both the Championship and League Two and now our writer Oliver Gull brings you the contenders for the League One crown this season.
After the MK Dons, Preston North End and Bristol City all made it to the promise land of the Championship last season, who will be in with a shout for the upcoming season. Here are 6 contenders we think could be in the mix come next May. Do you agree?
Sheffield United
After spending four seasons in League One, under the management of former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins, Sheffield United could well be ready to make the step back up to the Championship, not just via the playoffs, but the top two or maybe even as Champions.
Since their relegation to League One in 2011, Sheffield United have missed out on the playoffs just once, and managed to make the playoffs, finishing in 5th place last season, and following a loss to Swindon in the semi-finals, Nigel Clough’s sacking was imminent, showing the club’s ambition for the coming season.
Nigel Adkins has been there and done it all before in League One, and has won promotion to the Championship three times in his managerial career, twice with Scunthorpe and once with Southampton. Sheffield United will be looking to bring in some new signings over the summer, and they could make a serious push for the title next season.
