Stand-out teams and players:
Naturally, Chile deserve a place on this list, and although they did not always win in the cleanest of ways, they got the job done, playing some good football with some great goals in the process. Their star players; Alexis Sanchez, who calmly slotted in the deciding penalty, Eduardo Vargas, who scored arguably the goal of the tournament, and Arturo Vidal, who put his reckless driving to one side and put in some stellar displays throughout the tournament, were three of the best players at the Copa America 2015, and played a large role on their nation’s success.
On the other side of the spectrum, Paraguay deserve a mention. Initially not expected to advance past the group stages, Paraguay made it to the semi-finals where, despite being thumped 6 – 1 by Messi and co, their heart and desire was exemplary throughout, and they leave Chile with their head held high.
Despite being on the losing side of a final for the second time in the space of a year, Argentina also deserve credit for their efforts in the tournament. Poor at times compared to their high standards, Argentina produced arguably the best display of the tournament in the semi-finals, and came within a couple of inches of winning the tournament. Yet again, they failed to get the best out Messi, but not many teams can say that they have made it to two international finals in a space of a year, and so the tournament was not all bad for the Argentinians.
