Evening Session

Brendan Dolan 10-6 Vincent van der Voort

Northern Ireland’s Brendan Dolan knocked out the speedy Dutchman van der Voort with an impressive display of tungsten throwing, where he will now face either James Wade or Kyle Anderson in round two. Dolan forged into a 4-1 lead that proved decisive as van der Voort was unable to crawl his way level in the tie as the ‘History Maker’ sealed an impressive win with a double 16 to take the clash 10-6.

Terry Jenkins 9-11 Mensur Suljovic

Terry Jenkins was dumped out of the World Matchplay at the first hurdle after the ‘Gentleman’ Mensur Suljovic won a sudden death encounter 11-9. The Austrian found himself 5-2 down before reeling off the next five legs as the game went back on serve. With Jenkins having grip problems as the heat in the Winter Gardens caused difficulties, Suljovic wrapped up victory with double 16 for a shock win.

BETVICTOR WORLD MATCHPLAY 2015 WINTER GARDENS,BLACKPOOL PIC;LAWRENCE LUSTIG ROUND 1 GARY ANDERSON V STEVE BEATON GARY ANDERSON WINS
LAWRENCE LUSTIG/PDC

Gary Anderson 10-4 Steve Beaton

Reigning world champion Gary Anderson cruised into the second round of the World Matchplay with a 10-4 defeat of an out of sorts ‘Bronzed Adonis’. Anderson raced into a 7-1 lead and though Beaton picked up a further three legs to make the score respectable, the Scot wrapped up the victory with double top to seal his passage through.

James Wade 10-7 Kyle Anderson

In the match of the tournament so far, James Wade moved into the second round in a high quality contest against the Australian Kyle Anderson. Both players exchanged breaks in the tie with neither able to earn a two leg lead as both players averaged 100+. In a nervy ending, both players had chances to break and hold their throw with the experience of Wade proving decisive as he broke and finished off with an 11 dart leg to beat the plucky Anderson.
