The first of two nights of quarter-final action was completed last night as favourite Michale van Gerwen and Peter Wright made it through to the last four of the PDC World Matchplay tournament in Blackpool.

A review of the sixth night of action can be found below at The Sports Lowdown

Peter Wright 16-7 Gerwyn Price

Snakebite Peter Wright put an end to the Iceman Gerwyn Price’s tournament in convincing style with a dominant 16-7 victory at The Winter Gardens. Early on in the clash, Wright broke Price’s throw twice to take a 6-2 lead with a 1005 accuracy at doubles as the Scotsman laid down a marker.

Wright was in no mood to allow the former Rugby League professional, Price to get a foothold in the quarter-final as he reeled off the next four legs to stun the Welshman and open up an eight leg lead at 10-2. Price managed to get a few legs on the board including a bull finish when sat on 80. However the Scot who is looking for his first major title in the PDC, closed out the tie after missing four match darts before closing out on the fifth for double four and a 16-7 win in impressive fashion.

Michael van Gerwen 16-13 Ian White

World number one and favourite Micahel van Gerwen was pushed all the way by Ian White before securing a 16-13 win to make it through to the semi-finals of the PDC World Matchplay. The Englishman White, was in stunning early form as he opened up a 6-1 lead to stun van Gerwen into action, with the raucous home crowd loving every step of the action in Blackpool.

You cannot keep the Dutchman down for long though and he stormed back to level at 8-8 with the world number one looking at this stage to be the clear favourite for a semi-final place. However White hadn’t read the script as he went three legs away from a shock victory to lead 13-12. Van Gerwen wasn’t finished though and reeled off four legs in a row to seal his place in the next round, showing his all round capabilities, coming from behind to snatch victory 16-13.
