Great Britain’s squad for next month’s World Athletics Championships in Beijing have been announced, and heptathlon competitor Jessica Ennis-Hill has been included.
The 29 year old, who won gold at London 2012, has been out of action after giving birth to her baby boy, but returned to action in May. She also competed in last weekend’s Anniversary Games where she was on top form.
Also in the squad are runners Mo Farah, who will defend is 5,000m and 10,000m titles, sprinter Adam Gemili and Dina Asher-Smith.
Farah, amidst from doping allegations towards his coach Alberto Salazar, will be looking to claim his third successive 5,000m gold, having won in 2011 and 2013.
21 year old Sprinter Gemili won’t compete in the individual event after a recent hamstring injury, but is part of the 4x100m relay squad, whilst 19 year old Asher-Smith, who set a British record in the 100m at the Olympic Stadium last Saturday, is Team GB’s only female short sprinter.
London 2012 silver medallist Christine Ohuruogu will aim to retain her 400m title. The former Olympic champion will be looking to secure her third success, having first won it in 2007.
Elsewhere, Greg Rutherford, the current Olympic, Commonwealth and European long jump champion, will be hoping to become just the fifth British athlete to achieve an athletics Grand Slam in China by holding all four major titles.
Katarina Johnson-Thompson will also compete in the heptathlon with Ennis-Hill, aswell as the long jump, whilst long jumper Shara Proctor has also been selected following her British record last week.
