Arsenal forward Theo Walcott looks set to sign a new four-year deal with the Premier League side, according to reports.
Walcott, who scored the winner in the Gunners 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg in yesterday’s Emirates Cup final, has less than a year to run on his current contract.
Reports suggest that the 26 year old England international will sign a deal worth over £100,000 per week, keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until 2019.
If this is the case, then the forward will become one of the Gunners highest paid players as Arsenal look to build a squad to compete for the Premier League title this coming season following two successive FA Cup triumphs.
Walcott joined the club in 2006 from Southampton, having come through the youth set-up at St. Mary’s. Despite an injury hit tenure at the Emirates, Walcott has gone on to make over 300 appearances, scoring 76 goals.
The 26 year old suffered a serious knee injury that kept him out for almost a year, missing large parts of domestic action for the Gunners as well as last summer’s World Cup in Brazil. His return in January proved that the pacey player has fully recovered, offering a threatening Arsenal attack pace, trickery and goals.
Walcott and Arsenal have looked solid throughout pre-season so far. Having already won the Asia Trophy and now the Emirates Cup, the club head into Sunday’s Community Shield final at Wembley against Chelsea full of confidence.
