Chelsea will appeal the red card dished out to Thibaut Courtois at the weekend in the 2-2 draw with Swansea City after he was deemed to be the last man by referee Michael Oliver.

Pundits across the Premier League world have been split over whether Courtois’s dismissal was the correct decision with Alan Shearer labeling the decision correct on BBC’s Match of the Day programme on Saturday evening.

Manager Jose Mourinho refused to be drawn on the red card in post match interviews but the club has requested an appeal over the red card, which is likely to be heard tomorrow (Tuesday).

Courtois was sent off for what is being deemed an attempt to deny Batafembi Gomis a goalscoring opportunity though replays indicated that cover from wither side of Courtois could have cut that attempt out. Swansea equalised from the penalty spot from the resulting spot-kick awarded by Oliver.

Asmir Begovic, a summer signing from Stoke City replaced Courtois for the remainder of the game and will continue in goal should the appeal fail, it will result in a one match ban, which will see him miss the trip against Manchester City in front of the TV Camera’s on Sunday.
