Manchester United look set to retain Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero ahead of want away Spain international David De Gea for the trip to Aston Villa this weekend.
Romero, a recent free transfer buy from Sampdoria started in the Red Devil’s opening game of the season, a 1-0 win at home to Tottenham Hotspur after the recent speculation involving De Gea wanting to move to Spanish side Real Madrid, saw manager Louis van Gaal leave out De Gea, with his head reportedly not in the right frame of mind to play.
Recent speculation had seen De Gea apparently declare to those inside the cub that he was keen to get back into the starting XI and play again for the club. The transfer saga has been going on all summer with De Gea keen on a move to the Bernabau but Manchester United not willing to let the goalkeeper go on the cheap. There were suggestions that a deal to take De Gea to Madrid with defender Sergio Ramos coming in the opposite direction could be on the cards but Madrid were unwilling to part with their club captain.
Ramos has since signed a new deal with Spanish side, which leaves De Gea having no other option than to remain at Old Trafford. De Gea has been with the club since 2011 and has played an increasing role within the club over the last couple of season’s culminating in player of the season trophies.
