Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has been handed a ‘substantial’ fine after claims that the forward made a racial slur in a casino.
Vardy, who has been fortunate enough to keep is position at the club after his ‘promt apology’, has also been ordered to undergo diversity awareness training by the Premier League side.
The Sun newspaper published a video which allegedly showed the 28 year old abusing a Japanese man last month.
The news comes just two months after the Premier League side sacked three players after their involvement in a racist sex tape which had been filmed during the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand.
Tom Hopper, Adam Smith and James Pearson all were sacked by the club, but it appears that Vardy has avoided a similar fate.
New manager Claudio Ranieri said; “Jamie has apologised and for me it is OK.”
And speaking about the relationship with Vardy and fellow striker, Japan international Shinji Okazaki, Ranieri added; “There’s a good relationship between Jamie and Shinji. We go only forward.”
The club have stated; “Jamie has been reminded of his responsibilities,” before adding that the forward will donate his fine to local charities.
On the field, Vardy scored Leicester’s opening goal in last Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Sunderland, but it remains uncertain what impact the former Fleetwood striker will face over the next couple of weeks.
