Chelsea have completed the signing of Barcelona striker Pedro for £21 million with the Spanish international signing a four year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Pedro had been a target for Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal but Chelsea have swooped in to sign the forward after the Old Trafford club could not agree a fee for the striker.
Pedro joins a forward line that includes Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao and will provide stiff competition for first choice striker Costa, who has failed to grab the headlines so far this season. With Costa and his injury problems, Mourinho needed to go into the transfer market to gain added firepower after the Premier League champions have struggled in the early part of the season.
A draw on the opening day against Swansea City and a 3-0 thumping by Manchester City over the Blues, has got the pundits questioning Mourinho’s lack of action in the transfer market this pre-season and he has now sought to address the issues as Chelsea find themselves five points behind last season’s runners-up in the early season and cannot afford to lose any more round to Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Pedro has left Barcelona, seven years after making his debut for the Catalan giants, scoring 99 goals in 326 appearances for the club. The Spanish international is a World Cup and European Championship winner with Spin and has also won five La Liga titles and has three Champions League victories to his name.
