As the heat begins to turn up for Chelsea after two bad performances, Chelsea look to restore their previous form from last season in a bid to retain their title hopes. One man again being linked to the club is Paul Pogba.
Is Pogba on his way to London? Is Pogba what Chelsea need right now? Or is this just an overrated move that will have little effect on Chelsea’s campaign?
Pogba has been hot transfer market stuff. At the age of only 22, the Frenchmen has displayed amazing performances impressing many all over Europe. He has already won Serie A an amazing three times and came remarkably close to the most prestigious club trophy in Club Football, the Champions League. The young talent has drawn the eyes of many. Practically every club has been linked to him over the last few transfer seasons.
Pogba boasts height (6ft 2 in) and immense strength but also dazzling skill and dribbling ability. Undoubtedly, the most outstanding skill he possess is his shooting. Remarkable goals from 30 yards out had initially made him an instant sensation. The player never fails to surprise. Perhaps one of the most complete players in the game. It was certain that Juventus had really got hold of something special.
The summer transfer season began with the usual interest from clubs such as Chelsea and Barcelona. Enquiries made with the clubs were shut down early on. Emphasised with the announcement of Pogba’s new number 10 shirt. It was clear Juventus were not interested in anything there was to offer and if they were, the fee was in definite excess of £60 million. A hefty price for any club. The player also seemed to have set his heart in Turin and was unwilling to push any deal through or hand a transfer request, with his agent repeatedly projecting this message. All this despite the fact many clubs would definitely be able to offer masses more in wages than Juventus.
However, the 3-0 alarm bell sent Chelsea back calling. Big signings were needed. And Pogba was among the one of them. Fortunately for Chelsea, Juventus have previously been interested in several players at the club; Oscar and Cuadrado among them. Chelsea had strong bargaining chips and would instantly be given an opportunity to use them to negotiate. However things didn’t turn out as simple as that.
Both Oscar and his agent have reportedly expressed his desire to remain at Chelsea for the foreseeable future. The club also holds a similar stance. However, the club does look to offload Cuadrado, who has been everything but impressive for the blues. The Colombian who was doing fantastically at Fiorentina has not been able to get much game time for the London side. On field, he failed to provide the required strength, dynamic or creativeness that Mourinho required.
Juventus however have expressed that Cuadrado is not their number one choice and that a loan deal would be much more preferred than a permanent one. Chelsea however, continue to look for a more permanent solution for Cuadrado’s whereabouts. Unwilling to load him off at a cut price, it is understood that Chelsea are trying to recoup the £23.3 million fee they initially paid Fiorentina for him. Chelsea remain open to offers for both Cuadrado and Moses.
