Watford 0-0 West Brom
West Brom made the trip to London to take on Watford in their first home game in this season’s campaign. The game ended 0-0, but with Watford dominating the stats and West Brom failing to get a single effort on goal does this spell trouble for the Midlands team? Watford will be proud of their performance and will feel very unlucky to not have picked up the three points that they deserved on the day.
West Ham 1-2 Leicester City
Leicester continued their 100% record in this season’s campaign by beating a West ham team on the back of a huge away win at Arsenal. First half goals from Okazaki and Mahrez was enough to see of the Hammers who managed to get one back in the 55th minute through Payet. Late drama in stoppage time, as the hammers stopper, Adrian was sent off for a high footed challenge on Vardy. The game finished 1-2 and Leicester City will look to keep up their very impressive start when they entertain Tottenham at home next week.
Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal
Arsenal got their points tally rolling as they beat Crystal Palace in this close London derby. Giroud opened his account for the season with a sensational acrobatic goal which beat McCarthy in the 16th minute. Palace pulled one back when Ward managed to connect well with a ball just outside the box to beat Cech to his lower left hand side. Then came a controversial moment, after being booked earlier in the half, Coquelin fouled again on the stroke of half time, only for Lee Mason to leave the player on the pitch and not give him his marching orders. Arsenal were once again ahead when a Sanchez header deflected in the Palace goal off Delaney in the 55th minute. After another sloppy tackle Coquelin who was extremely lucky to still be on the pitch, was hauled off by Wenger for the good of himself and the team. Palace will feel hard done by as Coquelin should not have stayed on the pitch and they may have felt with a man advantage they may have been able to get something from the game.
Manchester City 3-0 Chelsea
Last season’s top two played out a heavyweight clash as Manchester City ran out comfortable winners over a lacklustre Chelsea team. Aguero assured that Manchester City would be going into half team with a slender lead as he worked brilliantly to shrug off Cahill and Terry to neatly beat Begovic from 15 yeards. Begovic’s first half performance must not go under the radar as he single-handedly kept Chelsea in the game with a handful of world class saves. Chelsea upped the tempo in the second half and Eden Hazard will be disappointed to not see himself on the score sheet as he should have beaten Hart from inside the box while the score was 1-0. Two late goals from City assured them the points and Kompany rose well to beat Ivanovic to a well driven corner to double the lead, six minutes later Fernandinho piled more misery on the away team when he saw his shot beat Begovic from the edge of the area. After the results the two teams swapped round as favorites and Manchester City are now the bookmakers favorites to lift the 2015/2016 Barclays Premier League. Chelsea must bounce back away to West Brom next week where they need a win more than ever.
Liverpool 1-0 Bournemouth
Liverpool entertained newly promoted Bournemouth in the last game of the weekend. Liverpool on the back of a good away win at Stoke while Bournemouth were searching for their first points of the season. Bournemouth got off to a flying start with the Cherries skipper leaping well and beating Lovren in the air inside ten minutes, only for Craig Pawson to penalize the centre back for what was a very soft foul. Then in the 26th minute Liverpool found themselves ahead when Benteke met Henderson’s free kick and managed to tap into an empty net. According to the new offside rule the goal should not have stood as it states any player who makes a motion towards the ball will be flagged offside, which Coutinho clearly was. Bournemouth started the second half proceedings as positive as they did the match but other than a Matt Ritchie strike that struck the side of the post they never really tested the Liverpool stopper. Bournemouth will feel extremely hard done by as their disallowed goal was unfortunate not to stand and the goal they conceded which should have been flagged for offside. Liverpool have the perfect start to the season and will be looking to go three wins from three when they travel to the Emirates to play a highly anticipated match against Arsenal.
