Phil Taylor has won the Perth Darts Masters in the World Series after beating Gary Anderson and James Wade on finals night in Perth. The win sees the sixteen-time World Champion extend his lead at the top of the World Series table.
Taylor booked his place in the final in the first match of the night, beating Gary Anderson 10-5. Taylor broke in the first leg of the first match, but Anderson broke back in the fourth to level at 2-2. Anderson then went 5-4 up, steadily holding his throw before Taylor reeled off six consecutive legs to seal the win, taking out 81 and 80 on his way to victory. The sixteen-time World Champion averaged 108.50 in a commanding performance against the current World Champion.
James Wade would be the one to meet Phil Taylor in the final of the Perth Darts Masters after a dramatic semi-final win over Michael van Gerwen in a last-leg decider. The first five legs went against throw in a rather strange start to the match as Wade led 5-2 after seven legs after van Gerwen missed multiple crucial doubles in legs five and seven. Wade then went 8-4 up only for the Green Machine to win three legs in the spin to pull it back to 8-7. Wade then took out 122 on the bullseye, but missed match darts to win the match as van Gerwen forced a deciding leg. However, Wade nailed D12 to progress to the final with a 100.93 average.
It was a repeat of the World Matchplay semi-final in the final of this tournament as the first two legs went against throw. Taylor then pulled away into a 5-1 lead, but Wade kept battling to pull the score back to 6-4 with the help of Taylor missing three darts at double in the seventh leg. However, Taylor was just too strong for Wade in the end as he closed out an 11-7 victory over the Matchplay finalist to successfully defend his Perth Darts Masters title.
