2. Micah Richards – Aston Villa (aged 27)
Having already won 13 caps for England, the ex Manchester City defender may seem an odd choice to “gatecrash” the Euro 2016 squad. However, his last international appearance came in 2012. Frequent injuries and the emergence of Pablo Zabaleta as the first choice right back at Manchester City combined to Richards’ freezing out of the England picture.
However, after a loan spell with Fiorentina, Richards has moved to Aston Villa where not only is he now a first team regular, he was made captain by Tim Sherwood. If he can showcase the talent that led to him making those 13 caps before, Richards may be able to force his way into Hodgson’s thinking.
