4. Phil Taylor 6-5 Mike Gregory – 1992 BDO World Final
In match that is often described as the greatest match ever, we have the Taylor v Gregory final at number four and whilst we agree it was an epic match, the three to come we feel have that something special about them.
Taylor was the new pretender to the throne in world darts and had won the 1990 world title after becoming the protege of Eric Bristow. Mike Gregory was his biggest threat to the title and there was little between the players across the darting season.
Taylor had beaten John Lowe in the semi-finals whilst Gregory beat Kevin Kenny to make it through to the grandest stage of all, the Lakeside final and what we were given was a high quality affair that ebbed and flowed throughout the contest and no one was quite sure who would come out on top.
The final set went into sudden death with no player able to make the final hurdle and it came down to a final leg decider after Gregory had missed match darts to win. Taylor would make no mistake and wrapped up his second title with a 6-5 victory, highlights of which you can see below.
