It has not yet been confirmed, but the rumours surrounding Jenson Button and retirement are swirling around the Formula One universe. It is expected to be announced over the weekend at the Japanese GrandPrix in Suzuka.
Jenson Button is loved and adored. His charismatic wit and charm as well as his great racing ability combined, has made him one of the most popular amongst fans and Formula One paddock.
It will be a great and arduous task replacing him at McLaren Honda. He brings great experience and success to any team and appears to work well with Fernando Alonso, whose competitive nature can sometimes be a conflicting issue with team mates.
With McLaren Honda in a state of flux the right man needs to be selected to help steer them back to the top alongside Fernando Alonso. Below is a list of candidates who could potentially replace him.
1. Kevin Magnussen
He is the current reserve driver for McLaren Honda and has past experience racing for the Woking based team. He competed in the 2014 Formula One World Championship for McLaren, doing a respectable job. As well as a solitary drive in the 2015 season in place of Fernando Alonso.
Giving Magnussen the drive would make a lot of sense for McLaren. He knows the team very well. He also has age on his side, turning 23 in October, mirroring a philosophy McLaren like to adapt of youth products in their team. His pedigree may be his disadvantage, and a more experienced racer may be required.
