Jason Day has replaced Rory McIlroy as Golf’s Number One player after he won the BMW Championship by six shots ahead of Daniel Berger and Scott Piercey.
Day had led the way at the tournament since the opening round. He shot a first round 61 before following this up with a second round 63 to leave his rivals trailing in his wake. Day finished off the tournament clinically, carding two rounds of 69 in his final two rounds to win the tournament by six shots.
Berger and Piercey were Day’s nearest competitors, although they finished six and seven shots back respectively. Rickie Fowler, JB Holmes and McIlroy all finished on fourteen under but in truth nobody ever looked like challenging Day for the title.
Jordan Spieth finished eleven shots off the lead on eleven under, along with Justin Rose. Bubba Watson and Henrik Stenson also had a good tournament, finishing on twelve under.
Day, who won the first Major just a month ago, becomes the third player to the ranking if recent weeks. Spieth toppled McIlroy at the top of the rankings for a brief period before the Irishman reclaimed his top spot back. However, both players are now behind Day who has shown consistent form over the past few years and has now been rewarded with the title of being the best in the world.
