Rickie Fowler has won the Deutsche Bank Open after shooting a final round score of three-under-par to finish one shot clear of overnight leader Henrik Stenson.
Stenson was the only European to finish in the top five of the tournament, with Americans Charley Hoffman, Jim Furyk and Sean O’Hair completing the top five.
Fowler went into the final round one shot behind Stenson, but the Swede could only manage a score of one-under-par in the final round of the tournament. This opened the door for Fowler who bettered Stenson’s effort by two shots to secure the trophy. Hoffman finished four shots off the lead on eleven-under-par, while Furyk and O’Hair finished a further three shots back on eight-under.
Fowler was hotly tipped to win a Major this year but missed out, partly due to impressive performances from Jordan Spieth and Jason Day but also due to Fowler not reaching the heights he did in 2014. Fowler will now be hoping this victory can be a springboard to greater success in the back end of the year.
The victory marks Fowler’s third win on the PGA tour and he joins the likes of Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and Tiger Woods in winning the tournament.
