After Arsenal defender Gabriel’s dismissal for violent conduct following an incident with Chelsea’s Diego Costa in the Gunners 2-0 defeat away at Chelsea last weekend, the Football Association have now overturned his red card, but have handed the Blues forward three match ban.
The 24 year old defender was sent off by referee Mike Dean for violent conduct just moments after he was given a yellow card for an initial incident with Diego Costa.
The Chelsea striker continued to pressure and intimidate the defender, which led to the Brazilian appearing to stamp on Costa’s foot which in turn led to the red card.
The successful appeal will relieve him of his three match ban, however the defender will still need to face the FA regarding a charge of improper conduct in which he was awarded for not leaving the field promptly.
The Football Association have confirmed that Diego Costa will now face a charge of violent following the initial incident, a clash with Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny which led to Gabriel’s response.
