David Haye has declared interest in fighting British heavyweight sensation Anthony Joshua in the near future as he plots his comeback from a major shoulder injury.
Haye hasn’t fought since dismantling Dereck Chisora in 2012 after a long standing shoulder problem looked to have ended his career. At the time Haye was scheduled to fight world heavyweight title contender Tyson Fury but was forced to go into semi-retirement.
Haye over recent months has begun to discuss a return to the ring and sees a domestic clash with Joshua as a fight waiting to happen.
Haye told Sky Sports News HQ “It’s over three years now that I haven’t been in the ring but I’ve been looking after myself.
“It’s well documented that I’ve had many injuries, shoulder injuries. I’ve just been working hard behind closed doors, training, making sure that if and when I make this comeback I’m not going to have other injuries.
“I’ve been really working on my foundations so when I do make this comeback I don’t have to have six months to a year between fights, recovering from injuries.
“I want to make this last run my best – I’ll have an announcement soon. I’m in a really good place physically and mentally.”
Joshua looks for his 14th straight win in the professional ranks tonight as he faces the unbeaten Gary Cornish for the Commonwealth belt at the 02 Arena in London.
